The Work

Doing gospel work with Indigenous communities is a delicate task. Christians, the Church and missionaries are seen as “takers”. When Christian Europeans came to the “New World”, they systematically took land from the Natives and forced them onto Reserves. During the Residential School era, the Canadian authorities took away Indigenous children from their families and placed them in these church-run institutions. For so long, the Canadian government tried to take away First Nations’ culture and language so that they would be forced to integrate into Canadian culture. Christianity is seen as one of the things forced upon them. All of this has led to hurt, mistrust and suspicion between many Indigenous peoples and the church.

But despite the challenges, we believe that the Lord is doing amazing things for Indigenous peoples in Canada. Here is how we will approach this ministry:

In order to do this work, we need a good prayer base. One of my favourite missions quote is:

“The history of missions is the history of answered prayer.” — Samuel Zwemer

If we are to have an impact in the community, we need your prayers. Another great missions quote:

"Passionate prayers not only change the world, they have a way of transforming the people who pray….God’s goal is to recruit every one of us for His search and rescue team.” —Debbie Meroff

As you pray for Native ministry and for God's blessings upon First Nations, we believe that God will use you as a channel of blessing. You too can become an advocate for reconciliation between First Nations and the church.

The ministry also needs financial support. Your donations will help support the workers, the annual week-long day camp, fitness outreaches, backpack drives and Christmas baskets, and whatever other ministry opportunities that come along.

In the future there are possibilities of reaching other Reserves (even fly-in only Reserves), adding team members, opening a ministry centre and doing more to serve these communities, as the Lord leads. We invite you to join us in this adventure.
